FirstClass Conferencing system
This is an outline of the FirstClass Conferencing system, using the FirstClass Client.
Please Note any links on these pages do not take you to the forums — they take you to more information about a group of forums, and where they are placed within the ‘structure’ (a term which is used very loosely!)
Traditionally, FirstClass discussion areas have been known as ‘Conferences’. This is being gradually changed to the more usual term ‘Forums’. In the meantime, you may see the discussion areas referred to by either of these terms.
Logging in
When you login using the Client, you reach the First Class Desktop, which contains:
- Mailbox
- This contains all your emails and messages sent or received via the FirstClass system
- Address Book
- You can add addresses of people you contact regularly to the address book
- OU Service News
- This folder contains information about the conferencing service, for example when the servers will be down for maintenance; opening hours of the Computing Helpdesk; etc.
- Calendar
- You can add items to the Calendar as reminders
- Practice Forum
- If you’re not sure about posting messages to forums, you can send practice messages to this forum, just to get you used to the process. That way, you don't have to make mistakes in public! (though forum members are remarkably patient and helpful to newcomers who ask for help)
- Open University (with Blue Shield)
- This is the portal to all the other Forums on First Class
