Accessibility of this site
Our aim is to reach the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative AAA design standards for accessibility, the Worlds highest accessibility standards. This meets the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as far as reasonable adjustments being made.
We are working towards this standard, and we will always review the design and content of this site against these standards.
Navigation short cut keys
You can scroll through a web page using the keyboard.
Use the Page Down or down arrow key to scroll down.
Use the Page Up or up arrow key to scroll up.
Use the Home key to go to the top of the page.
Use the End key to go to the bottom of the page.
You can navigate between links, back to the previous page viewed or forward to a later page viewed using the keyboard.
Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Firefox
Press the Tab key to highlight the next link or field on a page.
Hold down the Shift and Tab keys to highlight the previous link or
field on a page.
Press the Enter key to navigate to a highlighted link.
Hold down the Alt and right arrow keys to go forward.
Hold down the Alt and left arrow keys to go back.
Opera
Hold down the Control and down arrow keys to highlight the next link on
a page.
Hold down the Control and up arrow keys to highlight the previous
link on a page.
Press the Enter key to navigate to a highlighted link.
Hold down the Control and right arrow keys to go forward.
Hold down the Control and left arrow keys to go back.
Setting tooltips size
The size of the text displayed when you hold the mouse over an acronym depends on the size of the tooltips text. For Internet Explorer and Opera this may be changed using the Windows display settings.
Either:
- select Start
- select Settings
- select Control Panel
- select Display
Or:
- right click on empty part of desktop display
- select Properties
The display settings dialogue box comes up
- select Appearance tab
- for Item: select Tooltip from the drop down menu
- use upper Color box to select background colour
- use bottom row of boxes to select font type, size, colour and style
- select OK or Apply to save any changes
Screen Readers
The blind and visually impaired can access information on a computer by using a screen reader. Those who are visually impaired, but have some sight, may use a screen reader in conjunction with reading the display visually.
